Fun Run and Furlough

Sarahs' school fun run was pretty big. The High School band played there, they had a Meadow Gold Cow walking around, and the Cheer leading Squad was doing pyramids in the middle of them while they ran in a huge circle around the school Field. It was the whole Elementary School so it was pretty intense, I saw Sarah walking through for about 5 seconds before I lost track of her again so I was so lucky to get a picture of her, she's in the orange with the pony tails. I was proud of her for doing that, it was very hot and someone told me later that some of the Kindergarten kids were crying and some were falling down, so it was a little bit much for the little ones but Sarah hung in there. I helped out with the Jamba Juice Tent which was pretty neat, it got a little crazy hearing all the people scream out different flavors but it was fun working with the other parents. All the volunteers got a free drink too, so refreshing.
That was the good part of the day, the unfortunate part is that a furlough is going to take effect on Oct.17. every other friday there will be no school. The teachers' Union got together to make this wonderful plan of taking 17 more days out of the school year for the kids, on account of Budget cut backs. Every body is feeling the sting but seriously, why would teachers want to do that to the children? I know the pay is ridiculous and worse because of the budget cut back, but seriously, isn't that taking one problem and creating another? Oh well nothing us parents can do about it but find other ways to educate our children.

That sounds like such a fun event and a great way to get kids into fittness (and get them nice and tired for the parents).
That is really sad about the teachers not teaching every other Friday. I have a blog that Stan's friend Melissa keeps where there are all sorts of cool ideas on what to do with kids when school is out if you want I can pass that on.

Tell me about it Grace, both girls are still sleeping, that's funny to be excited about that at a quarter til 7am but still they are usually up at 6:30! This is some nice relaxation time.
Yeah it is pretty sad about the teachers, they really can't do much about it though. Melissa blog sounds good for things to do with kids, thanks Grace! It's probably more of a pain for full time working parents then for me. We have some activity books and stuff so I'll probably just give her a little home schooling course. I tried it yesterday after her early Wednesday and she had a lot of fun, Julia too. they had little star name tags and table tags and they called me teacher. It was fun playing school so maybe we can make a day of it on those days.

I remember when I was a kid playing school was the coolest thing to do. That sounds like such a cute idea for you all to play together.
